Take your kids over to Paradigm Mall and have a fun-filled day surrounded by your favourite toy and game brands, such as Play-Doh, Monopoly, Twister, Transformers, and My Little Pony. If you missed the Art Discovery Tours at ILHAM Gallery earlier this month, don’t worry- there’s still more happening during the upcoming school holidays!

On top of the Art Discovery Tours, ILHAM will also be holding a variety of workshops planned in conjunction with the “Lift the Tikar!” Show by Yee I-Lann and her Borneo Heart Collaborators to help kids be further immersed in their tikar artwork. Solidify learning and discovery as you mix art with science, mandarin, coding and more!

  • Art and Coding Workshop with Code Juniors

Create a Game Inspired by the Geometric Shapes Found in Yee I-Lann’s Tikar Artwork:

Kids will learn about the geometric shapes found in Yee I-Lann and Collaborators’ Harunan Motol (Boat’s Ladder) Tikar (Mat) Artwork, and how math is used in art and design. They will then be guided how to draw shapes digitally and code a fun geometry dash style platform game.

Build a DIY Hydro Wheel, Learn about Energy Forms and Art Advocacy:

Kids  will learn about different forms of energy, why hydroelectric energy is used in Borneo and how art activists  use art to raise money to build hydroelectric power plants to bring electricity to rural Borneo.

Head on a a playdate-style tour through a small but significant part of the gallery, presented as as part of Borneo Heart in Kuala Lumpur and showcasing works by Bornean artist Yee I-Lann in collaboration with local creatives.

Mandarin Immersion Storytelling and Craft Workshop:

The session will feature music and movement, three Bornean “How and Why” Tales and a craft making activity. It  will be conducted in Mandarin with English translations where needed.

Storytelling and Picture Book Making Workshop:

A `”meet the maker” storytelling and art workshop by Author-Illustrator-Teacher Ammi Leong. Two picture books by Ammi Leong will be read to the children, and children will be guided in creating a simple picture book of their own after being inspired by these stories.

Storytelling and Ocean Life Doodling Workshop:

Award-winning Author-Illustrator-Storyteller Nor Azhar Ishak (or Uncle NAI) featuring his latest book will be sharing his latest story and be guided to find their own style and create characters for their own story using the “pen-on-paper art” illustration technique used by Uncle NAI to create his book.

Storytelling and Ocean Life Acrylic Painting Workshop:

Award-winning Author-Illustrator-Storyteller Nor Azhar Ishak (or Uncle NAI) will take your kids on a magical journey under the South China Sea, and kids will get to take home their very own acrylic painting of a marine creature after the storytelling session.

It’s going to be a full 60 minutes of feel-good family film favourites at the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra! Hum along to favourite movie tunes, and be enthralled with a magical repertoire, including songs from Beauty and the Beast, Coco (Remember Me), Star Wars, and A Frozen Fantasy.
