Things to Do in October and November 2021

Parents, we know it’s been a tough eighteen months for our families, being cooped up at home – and we’re so happy that life is slowly getting back to some semblance of normalcy! In celebration of the economy opening up, dining in being allowed once more, and play areas slowly reopening (oh, what joy!), here are a list of places and events to help you end October with a bang and start off a brand new season in November.

October 2021

1. Telur Pecah, GMBB Mall

If you and your little one are art enthusiasts, hop on over to the GMBB mall from Friday, 15th October 2021 to Saturday, 28th November 2021 to enjoy Telur Pecah, a contemporary art exhibition curated by Philip Wong. Enjoy the artwork of over 50 passionate Malaysian artists – young talents, special needs artists, senior artists (Sharifah Zuriah Aljeffri, Eric Choong and Datuk Kamil Shafie, to name a few), as well as a host of child artists and students from the Malaysia Institute of Art. The exhibit, which delights in the appreciation of local art, will be exhibited across eight galleries and eleven boxes, featuring narratives from each individual artist.

2. Mimpikita Warehouse Sale

Mimpikita is having a huge end-of-the-year sale, from 26th October through 30th October 2021. With prices as low as RM30 per item, don’t forget to take a look-see and try and get a bargain for those pretty pieces you’ve been eyeing! As the mimpikita team are still adhering to strict SOPs, they are limiting this to 15 pax per session (capped at 30 minutes).

3. Re:Play Toy Library

Play Unlimited is organising a host of activities at the Re: Play Toy Library in Rumah Tangsi on Saturday, 30th October 2021 and Sunday, 31st October 2021 (held in two separate sessions on both days, from 10.00am – 12pm and 2pm – 4pm) . The Calavera Automa Workshop will teach kids to move mechanical devices using decorative human skulls made from recycled items. For animal enthusiasts, the RIMBA Malaysia’s Endangered Animals Game will allow your kids to get to know Malaysian animals in an hour-long session. There will also be a Heritage Hunt, which is limited to 5 families (of 2 adults and 2 kids) at RM50 per family. All activities will be held at Rumah Tangsi at Jalan Tangsi Bangsar.

4. Halloween Decoration and Acrylic Painting Workshop, Atria Shopping Gallery

Head over to Atria Shopping Gallery this weekend for the Halloween Decoration and Acrylic Painting Workshop at 8pm on Saturday, 30th October 2021. Add something to your house deco to spook (or enchant) those little trick-or-treaters!

5. The Messy Club, KedaiKL

Make a ghoulie pit stop at KedaiKL and celebrate 30th and 31st October 2021 with over 40 different vendors at this creative bazaar. After being indoors and behind the screen for so long, The Messy Club are guaranteeing all visitors a messy and fun time.

6. Usahawan Muda, Bank Negara Music and Art Gallery

The Bank Negara Music and Art Gallery (BNMAG) is organising the Usahawan Muda (Young Entrepreneurs) workshop, which will be held on Saturday, 30th October 2021 and Sunday, 31st October 2021 from 10.00am to 12pm both days. This workshop is designed for those with a passion for entrepreneurship, with participants exploring the strength and creativity needed to be an entrepreneur, and how best to nurture problem solving skills. Register soon, as each session is only for 20 participants and is on a first come, first serve basis.

7. Open Skate, RexKL

RexKL, the performance and event venue along Jalan Sultan is organising an Open Skate on Sunday, 31st October 2021 from 10.00am to 7.00pm. Entry fee is priced at RM25 per person, with a complimentary RM20 food voucher, and it’s a bring-your-own-skates kinda vibe.

8. District 21

District 21 is open and ready for visitors with their mix of activities for the whole family. Kids in particular will love their Tubby Ride, Launch Pad, Power Station, Free Fall and Maze. Located within IOI City Mall in Putrajaya, District 21 is offering visitors a buy two tickets, get one free deal. However the deal is only available over the counter. Do note as well that District 21 adheres to strict SOP and requires visitors to be vaccinated.

9. JumpStreet

Jumpers rejoice, and make your way to JumpStreet with a buy 1 free 1 package! Plan playdates filled with a whole day of jumping and fun, with activities ranging from the Slam Dunk Court, Dodgeball and Big Airbag, to the always fun Velcro Wall, Zipline and also Jump Tap and Score. 10. Petrosains, The Discovery Centre

Our favourite centre for all things STEM-related has been open since 10th October 2021 and they already have a list of activities lined up for visitors. The Discovery Centre is physically open and features their Science Show, Dazzling Light Show, Sound Show, Water Water Everywhere and Combustion Show. Children may also participate in the daily activities organised, including the Night Light Lamp, Light It Cup, Makey Makey and 3D Pen Drawings.

Virtual classes are also available for those who are unable to make a trip over to the Centre, but who’d love to continue their STEM exploration. Some of these upcoming workshops include:

November 2021

11. Family Virtual Dance Camp 2021

There’s nothing a little dancing can’t do to cheer someone up! The Gardens Theatre wants to spread some rhythm and joy by organising a Family Virtual Dance Camp, with sessions beginning Saturday, 30th October 2021 through 7th November 2021. The mix of music ranges from KPop, Zumba, Hip-hop and Latin, to Ballroom, Creative Dance and Contemporary  – so there’s something for everyone to bop to. There will also be some short sessions in Modern Theatre and a small dose of Arts & Crafts to round off the musical activities for the week.

12. iWalk2021, Women’s Aid Organization

In conjunction with November’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and to generate greater awareness about domestic violence in Malaysia, the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) is organising the iWalk2021. This virtual  5km/10km walk signifies the community’s hope for survivors to walk away and live a life free from violence. Stay tuned for more info soon on makchic about WAO’s amazing initiative.

13. Tiffin at the Yard by Tiffin

Parents, rejoice and take time off cooking by dropping by the brand new Tiffin at the Yard at Sentul Depot! Don’t forget to come with an empty stomach and enjoy sampling the versatility of Malaysian cuisine with the little ones. This event space will be open from 3rd November 2021 onwards.

14. Sarah, PKK Tuanku Bainun

Sarah is a production presented by PKK Tuanku Bainun, in collaboration with the Sunday Puppet Cult, Adam Lewis, Purnama Maqasuci and Thrive Well, and is supported by Jabatan Kebajikan Malaysia.

The three short films that Sarah encompasses centres around child’s rights issues, told in the beautiful form of shadow puppetry. The three stories have been scheduled over three separate dates: The Pencil (13th November 2021), The Mousedeer (20th November 2021) and The Secret (27th November 2021). Don’t forget to pencil in a date with your little ones in generating conversations with them about their rights.

15. Hearts Youth Forum, PKK Tuanku Bainun

PKK Tuanku Bainun are also hosting the Hearts Youth Forum on 27th November from 2.00pm – 3.00pm via Zoom. This forum will allow participants to hear from the panel on the highs and lows of creating awareness and change, including identifying challenges, how to approach communities and making a difference.

16. Kuala Lumpur Witchcraft and Wizardry, CluedUpp

Manage mischief at this magical mystery solving event on 20th November 2021! This carefully crafted outdoor event will take your team on an adventure, in which clues will have to be cracked, puzzles will need to be solved and a realm will have to be saved in order to solve the mystery on time. Teams of 2 to 6 members can begin their adventure from 9.00 a.m. until 2.00 p.m. in this unique event, which is enjoyed by more than a million players worldwide. (The best part: under 16s can join in the fun for free!) Don’t forget to gather your band of wizards, get a hold of your broomsticks and grab your wands on your quest!

17. KLove Market, KLoe Hotel

KLoe Hotel and Traders Market will be hosting the KLove Market on 27th and 28th November from 11.00am – 6.00pm. The market will take place across the entire second floor of the hotel in a display of homegrown brands, turning the hotel grounds to a comfortable pop-up boutique bazaar for the weekend.
