One of the biggest myths of pregnancies is that you’ll be this gently blossoming and glowing beauty. Fifteen kilograms later, equipped with your own internal sauna – you know this isn’t true. Fluctuating hormones mean that your usually calm skin is suddenly littered with spots. Your heavy load makes it difficult to sleep resulting in the requisite eye bags and dark shadows.
There are a few things you can do to make the skin situation better like drinking plenty of water to keep things hydrated. A squeeze of lemon will make it more palatable especially if you are still bogged down by nausea. A pregnancy multivitamin for hair and skin does wonders in this time where you need an extra boost (remember, the baby you are growing is sucking up those vitamins too!). Of course, lots of fruit and vegetables in your diet is not only good for your insides but also keeps your skin happy.
And for everything else? Well, there’s make-up. And some awesome skincare solutions.
Clockwise:
- Living Nature Manuka Honey Rescue Gel, RM160, Just Life
It doesn’t smell of roses but this gel really does the job to spot treat pimples or as a lightweight moisturiser to calm inflamed skin. Best of all, unlike most acne medications, this is safe to use during pregnancy. - Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen, Approximately RM117, Sephora
Dot and blend this light reflecting pen under your eyes, on your brow bone, cheekbones and the bridge of your nose for an instant pick me up. - Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, RM135, Clarins
A best-selling cult favourite, slap this under your make up anytime when your skin needs a glowing boost. - Benefit Benetint Pocket Pal, RM75, Sephora and Benefit counters
Perfect for when you want to give your skin a rest, but would appreciate a pinch of colour on the cheeks and lips. - Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanser, RM178, TNS Skin Lab
It is tempting to pile on the makeup when your skin is not looking its best. Just make sure that you cleanse your skin thoroughly and this balm does the job. Smells heavenly too!
