For mothers who have just had a baby, this “Clinically Proven” postpartum gel claims to firm loose skin and reduce puffiness all around. With naturally derived ingredients such as plant extracts and sophora japonica (known for draining properties), the specially formulated gel is the only one of its kind for new moms. Two months after the birth of her baby, contributor Michelle Lim-Chua tried this famous postpartum product for herself.

Yay
- The non-sticky lotion smells great and dries quickly, making it perfect to use both morning and night (as instructed).
- The gel is caffeine and alcohol free, therefore safe to use when breastfeeding.
- As always with Mustela, the formula is made with all the good and safe stuff; paraben free and hypoallergenic of course.
Nay
- You need at least 10 pumps to get enough gel to cover the recommended areas; hips, bottom, thighs, belly and breasts. You’re meant to use this for a minimum of one month, but a single bottle of this doesn’t last near long enough!
- The gel didn’t seem to moisturise; dry areas stayed dry. Making it seem necessary to add body lotion on top of this, or skin remains dry and itchy.
- The product isn’t safe to use around cesarean scars. Therefore the lower tummy area, (where a lot of the skin slackening is) requires careful application.
Bottom Line
Although I’m a fan of this baby care brand, this particular product wasn’t worth the amount of time and money spent. There was no visible difference on my skin, nothing looked (or felt) more toned, refined or restructured. The only thing it did provide was a somewhat soothing and cooling effect when applied, and a sense of pampering one’s skin (but without the moisture!), after birth.
