Famous for their affordable quality furniture, IKEA has families doing rounds in the massive retail space. IKEA also knows just how hungry and restless families can get after a tiring day of heavy shopping, which is why they don’t only offer furniture and household items, but also food! The IKEA Restaurant is considered a resting place for you and your family to indulge your taste buds; indulge in their palatable array of Swedish and daily specials on both the regular and kids menu. Of course, their price range is just as appetising as their food! Let’s not forget the large kids play area, Småland, where parents can have them dropped off while they shop.

2. Out of Africa

PJ Palms Sports Centre is a place where most families can enjoy their recreational activities together. After a good swim, unwind at the African Safari-themed restaurant just next to the public pool. With the play pen, swings and slides all inside the restaurant compound, parents can let the kids explore the Safari jungle-styled eatery on their own. Out of Africa serves authentic African Halal and Pork-free cuisine. Either opt for the seats inside or dine al-fresco on the terrace next to the kid’s playground.

Located within the Damansara Jaya neighbourhood, Antipodean includes a spacious kids’ play area in the middle of the seating section. With a television, colourful toddler-sized stools and a good variety of toys to play with, your child can stay occupied while you enjoy your meal. While it does not have a kids-only menu, its extensive range presents many delicious kid-friendly dishes. If you’re on the other side of town, you can also check out their Bangsar and Jalan Tun Razak branch and expect the same yummy meals and kid-friendly spaces!

4. Tedboy Bakery, The School @ Jaya One

Tedboy Bakery serves scrumptious bread and pastry that is made from scratch.  Kids can stay entertained at the child friendly area at the back of the café while waiting for their food, where they can find kid sized furniture and colouring activities.

5. Leetou Pods (Non-halal)

It’s clear that this kids’ café was created by parents who know exactly what other mamas would appreciate! Living up to its tagline of ‘building communities through food’, Leetou Pods offers a kid-friendly menu, a play area that’s catered for young children, and workshops for both kids and parents. Past workshops include messy play, photography workshops for parents, nutrition for kids and more. Participate in upcoming workshops or simply pop by with the kiddos for coffee, wholesome soups, healthy chicken nuggets, mini pastries and more.

6. The Red Beanbag

A long-time favourite among coffee and brunch lovers since 2011, the Red Beanbag (RBB) has moved from its original home in Publika and has now opened its doors at Mutiara Damansara. The café is now bigger and brighter, spanning two levels and with a modern design. The new location still retains the same cozy and welcoming atmosphere RBB is  well-known for, with an addition to make all parents even happier- an inviting play area at the mezzanine! Enjoy their signature Eggs Benedict, fluffy pancakes, and hearty burgers while the kids stay happily engaged at the play corner that comes complete with a tree house and slide.

7. Play Village by Open Play House


A variety of food options await you here, as well as a kids’ play area and a baking studio. Entrance tickets to the Play Area are priced at RM30 per entry – but these charges are waived with a minimum spend of RM60. Do check their social media accounts for revised weekend operating hours (due to private events) and visit their other outlets as well, located at United Point, Kuala Lumpur and IPC Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya respectively.

8. SPLAT!

A Korean-inspired kids’ playground and cafe that serves up yummy juices, milkshakes, coffee, tea, snacks and desserts. The little ones will love the creative space which allows them to be drenched in thrilling chaos. Step inside their wet play space for a sensorial splash filled with colour and splatters of paint, and enjoy a variety of sensory activities designed to explore creativity and encourage individuality – ideal for children as young as 7 months old until the age of 8.

Make sure to bring along your child’s swimsuit, a change of clothes (for them, and for you too!) and towels to enjoy all the messy fun.

9. Kyoot Kids Play Cafe

From pizzas to pastas and Asian delights, enjoy the food here while your little ones delight in the nature-inspired play area. There is a RM15 charge per child for the unlimited use of the play area. Entry fee will be waived with a minimum spend on food and drinks at RM40 per child. Birthday party packages are also offered. The cafe also has monthly kids’ activities and events lined up, so make sure to follow them on their socials to stay updated.

10. Ngam Ngam Neighbourhood

Looking for healthy meals for your kids in addition to a playground they can occupy themselves with – this is the place to be! Though this cafe has expanded over the years to include a few locations in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur, only the below locations have a kids playground.

Marmalade

A long-standing, familiar place for parents with kids,  Marmalade serves up healthy, hearty food in a cosy ambiance. Their kids area is compact and intimate, with a variety of toys to choose from. Their menu consists of homemade dishes, such as wholesome salads, pastas and  smoothies, all at generous portions.

12. Jibby by The Park

Refill those little tummies here after playtime at this pet-friendly neighbourhood park. Located at Waterfront Desa Park City, this restaurant boasts a spacious al fresco dining area, facing bountiful botanics amidst high ceilings and vintage glass panes.

13. Botanica+Co, Bamboo Hills

Botanica + Co’s newest flagship outlet in the beautiful Bamboo Hills development is an amazing place to host a family-friendly meal or a kids’ birthday party. The little ones will love the generous outdoor space to run around in, as well as the wide array of delectable food that diners of all ages will be able to enjoy. 

This scenic branch also has a kids’ play area, which is an absolute plus point for parents to take in the views and enjoy their meals, while their kids play.

14. Beauty In The Pot (Non-Halal)

For a nutritious meal full of traditional goodness, head over with the family to Beauty In The Pot at the Gardens Mall. Choose from six different soup bases, and try their signature Beauty Collagen Broth, which has been painstakingly prepared over a minimum of six hours. The play area with a slide at the entrance of the  outlet is sure to get the kids working up a hearty appetite!

We also love their branch at IOI Damansara, which comes with a fun kids’ play area to keep young diners occupied.

15. Midnight Baker

A neighbourhood cafe that’s as family-friendly as it can get! Choose to sit indoors or outdoors, with both options having its own child-friendly appeal. The inside of the café is home to a wooden playhouse and slide, along with a variety of toys- useful for parents who want to keep the kids confined to a manageable section. The outdoor dining area is fully covered, and situated within a breezy large open space for the kids to wander (or run!) around in safety.

16. Green Tomato

We think KL should have more alfresco home based eateries like this! Green Tomato Café is conveniently located right behind the National Zoo, with free parking and a massive space for strollers. There’s a kids’ slide set up in the backyard, as well as bikes and scooters available for the kids to just hop on and use any time. Enjoy home-cooked dishes, and opt to pre-book activities for additional entertainment, pre or post meals. (Activities include tie-dyeing batik shirts, giant bubble wands, and ‘latte’ hot chocolate art classes). With a maximum capacity of 20, this place is often booked for private events and birthday parties, so reservations are required before a visit.

17. Ben’s, Bangsar Shopping Centre

If you’re craving Ben’s signature ‘East meets West’ cuisine (while having your kids with you), then head on over to their Bangsar branch! There’s a turfed play section with a slide and bean bags located within the private dining area, where you will be able to keep an eye on the kids playing through the glass doors. The adults will be able to enjoy a good chat undisturbed- and keep those conversations going with fun talking cards provided at each table.

You can also check out Ben’s other outlets at The Linc and Publika, if you’re looking for additional spaces with play areas for young families.

18. Noriter, Plaza Arkadia

Noriter is first and foremost a fun-filled kids’ play space with Lego sets, pretend play corners, train tracks and a wooden slide. Food is available for hungry guests, with two external restaurants providing authentic Vietnamese and Korean (non-halal) meals. The entire area is bright, clean and welcoming- with no shoes allowed, ample sunlight streaming in, and even a nursing room for breastfeeding mummies!

19. Madam Kwan’s, Retail 163

Get your childhood food fix at Madam Kwan’s, a well established and all time favourite for many Malaysians. The spacious branch at Retail 163 is great for dining with the entire family, with a welcoming slide and book area for the little ones. Enjoy digging into a range of local delights and treat the kids to some cendol and sago melaka dessert to wash it all down!

20. KOLA Cafe

A cafe with a nice play area for kids, and even a nursing room! It is highly recommended that you make reservations here, especially during weekends, to secure your tables. Do note there is also a 2 hour dine-in limit on weekends and public holidays.

21. Kam Kee Cafe 

Visit their Tropika Bukit Jalil outlet for an upstairs play area and a pet-friendly area downstairs. On busy weekends, reservations for the kids’ area upstairs are not allowed. However, reservations can be made for the downstairs area and guests can request to be moved upstairs, depending on available seats. We hear the kids love the french toast here!

22. Baby Degree

A family-friendly cafe located serving simple Japanese-inspired cuisine with pasta options for kids and providing child-friendly play facilities. Private events like birthday parties are also held here.

23. Hornbill Restaurant

The restaurant is located at Perdana Botanical Garden in Kuala Lumpur and is adjacent to the KL Bird Park. Though there is no play area, kids will still love this place! You do not need to visit the bird park in order to eat here. The little ones will be most excited as they dine and see hornbills and other birds perched on the ledge coming for a visit.

24. Abby’s Play Cafe

A cosy two-storey cafe equipped with a very large play area on the first floor and a corner of activities on the ground floor. This space will definitely keep the kids entertained while their parents sip on unlimited coffee (make sure to check out their weekday promos!), catch up with friends or get some work done. As for food, Abby’s Play Cafe has a wide selection of sweet and savoury meals and munchies to satisfy everyone’s tastebuds!

25. The Other Loft

The Other Loft is a one-of-a-kind lifestyle cafe located in Bandar Utama that has a climbing wall, a retail store, and regularly hosts workshops. While their menu selection is currently limited, the food at the cafe is delectable. Registrations are required for the workshops hosted by the cafe, but walk-in visitors are welcome to browse the store.

26. DuDu Kids Cafe

DuDu Kids Cafe has a unique set up, with their in-house cafe sitting right at the centre of the play area, allowing parents to enjoy a worry-free meal, while still keeping a watchful eye on their little ones. Even the youngest adventurers have a small space to explore the cafe’s sensory activities and keep active with their climbing equipment. Helpfully, there is also a baby changing room and toilet for customers to use.

27. Munchkidz

A multi-purpose space for kids and adults alike! Munchkidz has a workspace for parents, a little library for the kids, a cosy seating area for mums and dads to enjoy, and an intensive creative playzone that spans multiple floors. Their menu is simple, but suitable for all ages to enjoy.

28. Pokok, Sunway Pyramid

Pokok by the Brickhouse Group has expanded over the years with their latest addition in Sunway Pyramid. They’ve added an adorable little space for the kiddies to burn off their energy, while the adults get to enjoy the wide array of yummy pastries they have on offer.

29. Chef Kecik Boulangerie

Nestled behind the old prison doors of Pudu Jail is a cosy little cafe known as Chef Kecik Boulangerie. With an amazing array of baked goods and fusion food in their menu to satisfy all tastebuds, they also have a little play area to keep the kids occupied while waiting for their meals.

30. Bliss Babe Cafe, Palimbayan

Bliss Babe Cafe is hidden away in the hills of TTDI (in the Palimbayan area), with absolutely beautiful scenery and with plenty of activities for children. They have slides, swings and even a little natural water pool for kids to take a dip in, but do remember to bring along a spare change of clothes. Mamas in need of a refresher might also be pleased to learn that Bliss Babe Cafe is Malaysia’s first collagen cafe, with drinks infused with collagen to bring out that glow in you!

Nestled in the heart of Ara Damansara, Kaya Bakery offers a selection of sourdough breads, breakfast buns, cakes and pastries, along with a small selection of hot foods that are made to order (we hear that their kaya croissants are scrumptious)! While the adults enjoy their baked goodies, the kids can have fun at the cafe’s spacious “Little Loaf Land”, where they can pretend that they’re running a bakery too!
