There are thousands of baby products on the market today, but do you really need it all? Yin Peng Leong is PopDigital’s Chief Operating Officer and mother to a soon-to-be one-year-old daughter. Here, she shares her greatest hits and flops from the early days.
Most Used
- Avent Bottle Steriliser: I can’t think of a gadget in my household more well used than this. I’ve been using this quick and easy way to clean my daughter’s milk bottles and pacifiers several times a day since she was born.
- Stokke Xplory Stroller: Love it for the height (which at times doubles up as a high chair) and its excellent maneuverability – think screaming baby, many shopping bags and only one hand to push the stroller.
- Nappies: No, not as diapers but as burp cloths, swaddling, emergency blankets and light use towels.
- Mothercare Top ‘N’ Tail Bowl: Great for those washes in between bath times. My daughter is turning one and we’re still using it.
- Plastic Containers: Keeps the toys clean and away from the household pests.
- Parklon Play Mat: I roll this out everyday since my daughter was 3 months old. It’s soft enough to cushion those falls as she learns to walk and easy to clean – just use a damp cloth or wet wipes to keep clean.
- Khind Double Boiler: Works like a slow cooker except better because I can prepare a three-course meal in one gadget.
Didn’t Use Enough
- Bottle Warmer: Expensive and didn’t warm the milk evenly. I found the conventional method of warming the expressed breast milk in a mug of hot water much better.
- Baby Carrier: Malaysia’s hot and humid climate didn’t translate well for my daughter when she’s in it.
- Playpen: It was useful for about 3 months before it got too small. Not great for our backs too because as our babies get older, you’d have to lower the playpen.
