As parents, we could all use some extra help. Here are some new gadgets for parents seeking a little more peace of mind.
Smart Baby Bottle
Before you start imagining a bottle that could self-wash, sterilise, keep warm and mix baby formula, this is not that type of bottle. The Baby Gigl is a smart baby bottle holder that helps keep track of the amount of liquid before and after a feeding. The Bluetooth-enabled bottle allows you to keep a log of a baby’s feeding time and how long it took. Much easier than jotting it down on your notebook or smart phone.
If the bottle is held at a wrong angle and therefore allowing more air in instead of liquid, that could lead to colic and indigestion; Baby Glgl will send off signals via the LED indicators so parents can quickly correct the mistake and have less issue when burping the baby later.
Patch Thermometer
Blue Spark Technologies has developed a patch that can track your baby’s temperature for up to 24 hours. The disposable TempTraq thermometer is placed on your child’s underarm and is able to send information to a mobile device to alert parents if the child’s temperature goes up when they have a fever.
You can also make notes when medicine was given and even send a chart to your doctor. This is a great device to have when parents do not want to wake up a sleeping child to take their temperature every hour.
Just like an adhesive bandages, TempTraq patch is durable, waterproof and made from safe-to-use, soft, flexible materials that are latex-free and commonly constructed into wearable patches.
Socks Monitor
Bringing home a newborn baby is a nerve-wrecking experience and paranoid parents would actually check if the baby is breathing every hour while they are asleep. If you are such a parent, the Owlet socks is the answer to your sleepless nights! It monitors your baby’s vital signs such as heart rate and oxygen levels using a technology called the “Pulse Oximetry” that shines light through a baby’s foot.
According to their FAQ, Pulse Oximetry traditionally doesn’t burn or harm patients and they have taken steps to further minimize any risk. The monitor is not always on and it uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to communicate periodically to your phone. The radio waves generated from the device are less than twenty times below that of the cell phones that are carried in our pockets.
Smart Pacifier
The Pacif-i smart pacifier by BlueMaestro is able to measure and send temperature data to a smartphone or tablet. It also has a tether capability that sends an alarm once your child moves out of range – very helpful for parents of active children who are quick on their feet!
If your child drops the pacifier, you can turn your smartphone’s GPS to show where it is located on a map. Once you are nearby, you can activate a buzzer so that it can beep for you to find it.
Baby Ankle Monitor
If you want to monitor your baby’s sleeping patterns, moods and heart rate, Sproutling may be your answer. Strapped around your baby’s ankles, it will help you to understand if your baby is sleeping well even when he or she is sleeping quietly. Parents do not need to wait for a baby’s cries as a signal and react to it.
Sproutling can also help prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) as it sends reports to the parent’s iPhone. Sproutling is meant for babies six months old and above and its soft wearable band is washable and waterproof.
Parents receive alerts when the baby wakes up or when he or she has a fever. They even get predictions on when the baby will wake up and the preferred conditions that would create the most suitable sleeping environment.
