I was crazy about coconut oil during my pregnancy using it in my hair and even on my face and body; Olive oil was something I used only for cooking. In my attempt to go as natural as I can with skincare products for myself and T.Rex, I decided to give Olive baby products a try. I picked up their full range: The Olive Massage Oil, Moisture Milk, Nappy Cream and Hair and Body Wash. Before testing the products on T.Rex I checked to be sure they were made with natural ingredients, and was surprised to find that olive oil is the one product hardly anyone is allergic too – so I knew I didn’t have to worry about doing a patch test. All Olive skin care products are made at the Simunovich estate in New Zealand, with only home grown olives used in their (grandmother’s!) family recipe formulations.

Yay
- Each product formulation uses pure extra virgin olive oil and calendula, and even natural hypoallergenic fragrances for the pleasant scent.
- The product blends all feel luxurious, from the creamy texture of the Nappy Cream, to the almond and jojoba oil used in the Massage Oil; the company claims to make products in small batches in order to ensure higher quality.
- The products are fast-absorbing, which is very important especially when looking for a non-slippery baby lotion. You only need the tiniest bit of Moisture Milk to cover your baby from head to toe (I didn’t use it on his face) and the Massage Oil is a lot less greasy than the other brands I’ve tried, although it is rich in almond oil.
- The Hair and Body Wash cleans and smells far better than the Burt’s Bees Shampoo & Wash (supposedly fragrance free), and left a very fresh scent in my baby’s hair. I didn’t think I would find anything better (or safer) than Burt’s Bees, but Olive has impressed the entire family. It is also the only one that contains pure olive leaf extract, which improves skin’s elasticity and is a potent antibacterial and antifungal agent.
Nay
- The bottle sizes are a little small (although travel-friendly) and I would have liked the Hair and Body Wash to be available in a larger 250ml size.
- The Moisture Milk is a little thick upon application, and takes awhile to be absorbed completely into very dry skin.
- The Nappy Cream didn’t appear to make much of a difference (although the mango butter is meant to soothe).
Bottom Line
The Olive baby skincare range is my new favorite. I plan to top up on the Hair and Body Wash soon and will probably grab another bottle of the Moisture Milk when it runs out. Overall, I think the natural benefits of using olive oil on your baby is an extremely safe choice, compared to many of the other products out there. Knowing that olive oil extracts have been used for centuries for it’s antioxidant powers (because it contains minerals, proteins and vitamins) gives me the assurance that it benefits one’s skin.
