Usher in 2023 and kick-start the new year this January with exciting family events. Whether your new year’s commitment is to raise conscious children, nurture creativity, spend more time in nature (or if you’re just up for fun things to do!), here’s a list of exciting events to get you started:

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur

2. Nature Play Program, MAE

The MAE 2023 nature play programmes will bring about brand new themes in new locations, alongside tried-and-tested favourites. Join the first programme of the month at Taman Saujana Hijau, learn all about the different species of trees, and have a go at measuring a tree’s height and predicting its age.

3. Eco Warrior Gardening Workshop + Jungle Walk, IBU

Go on a toddler-friendly hike and get those little hands dirty, as kids pitch in as an eco-volunteer in an interactive gardening experience. The fun extends back home, where little ones will be bringing back their own mini planting kit. A portion of the ticket sales will also be donated to Free Tree Society.

2.  Art Rocks Us, Menara KEN TTDI

A vibrant collaboration between educational non-profit organisations FugeeAngsanacare and profit-making agency  Brand Me Happy and Tea Bird Tea, ART ROCKS US features visual paintings and art installations by Sharon Abdullah, Ashleigh Cotterill and talented refugee students. Profits from art and products sold will go towards art and music therapies for terminally ill children and the Fugee School, founded by Deborah Henry, to provide much-needed educational opportunities for refugee children and youth.

3. Paint Your Family Members by Pablo Picasso, Art & Bonding

No painting experience needed for this kid-friendly art and bonding session; just head over with your kids and be guided through the entire process of painting each other.  All materials will be provided, along with free-flow of non-alcoholic drinks. Just turn up, sip, paint and have fun!

4. Art Competition, Students Not Brides

Support Students Not Brides, a member of the Pelajar Bukan Penantin (PBP) coalition, who will be spearheading an advocacy campaign among Malaysian youths to raise awareness on child marriages.  If you have kids above 13 years old, encourage them to learn more about child marriage issues,  and join their MyArt2EndChildMarriage competition with prizes up to RM500 up for grabs!

Chinese New Year Activities

1. Lion Dances, Klang Valley

Chinese New Year would not be complete without the festive, noisy lion dances! Look forward to the acrobatic lion dances,  Chinese drums and dance performances, happening around town this year.  If your kids are fans of these traditional shows, you’re going to find this list by Lion Dance Freak super useful!
