Woohoo! You’ve made it through 2022 to the final month of December – and to the final stretch that’s going to be filled with school holidays, year end trips, family get-togethers and Christmas festivities. However your year has panned out (we do hope it’s been a great year for all our mamas), here’s to ending the year on a high note with these exciting things to do:

Be amused and entertained by this full-length ballet production, as you meet the many new friends curious Alice comes across in  Wonderland. 2. Christmas Extravaganza, klpac x TAC

3. Follow the Light, theatrethreesixty

It’s the Nativity story as you’ve never heard it before! With design and direction by Christopher Ling and powerful performances by the theatrethreesixty collective, this year marks the 12th anniversary of this original (and wildly entertaining) Christmas musical comedy, brought to life by the music and lyrics of the talented Nick Choo. From a confused carpenter and dysfunctional shepherds, to men of questionable wisdom and a smooth-talking Angel, let laughter (and light) carry you this Christmas. 4. The Sound Of Music, Istana Budaya

Do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do… Our all-time favourite will be premiering at Istana Budaya, with a brand new international production of this beloved musical. Go down memory lane with the heartwarming tale of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound Of Music (adapted in the classic 1965 American musical drama film of the same name). Sing along as you watch Maria, the fun-loving governess, change the lives of widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children as she re-introduces them to the joys of music.

5. Disney in Concert: A Magical Celebration

3. Kabut in the Park #9.2 Yard Sale, klpac

Show some love to Mother Nature this season, while some getting good bargains. Get your hands on some preloved items that no longer spark joy for others (but might for you!), at the Kabut in the Park Yard Sale.  The sale will be held among the lush grounds and greenery of klpac, with nice picnic spots for families to relax and meet likeminded #Konmari warriors. Bring your children along too- there’s going to be fun giant bubble play and exciting surprises to look forward to!

Baking Workshops

1. Christmas Charity Cookie Decorating Workshops, Bisou Bake Shop

Join Debbra Lee, the founder of Bisou Bake Shop, as she guides both children and adults on fun cookie decorating workshops. Have fun making sweet Christmas treats while doing good, with 100% of the RM50 ticket cost being donated to charity (towards Dignity for Children or Bangsar Village’s Kids For Kids Charity). All materials will be provided, including the cookies, icing, piping tips and bags, and a selection of sprinkles.

2. Christmas Chef Workshops, PKK Tuanku Bainun

An inclusive Christmas workshop for children from all walks of life, because ’tis the season for all to be able to enjoy cooking and decorating! Make your own shepherds pie and cake pops, then design it with a Christmas tree and reindeer features respectively. These two Christmas-themed workshops will be held for both neurodiverse and neurotypical children, with sponsorship available for families with a household income below RM4,960.

1. Selangor International Book Fair, SIBF 2022

PPAS will be organising their first ever international event this month to keep up with the success of their previous book fairs!  Head over to the Selangor International Book Fair and spend the day immersed in a sea of books, talks (do keep an eye out for the  Selangor International Children Content) and pretty much all things book- related.  It’s a literary haven for the bibliophile in you!

2. GREAT Stories by British High Commission Kuala Lumpur

Explore the rich world of British books and literature with GREAT Stories, offering a fun and interactive exploration of well-loved stories. This event has been designed with engagement in mind, with performances by the KL Shakespeare Players, featuring creative retellings of stories from the UK, as well as a special reading of Romeo and Juliet, a classic Shakespearean tragedy adapted and suited for a younger audience.

1. Backstage Bites: Junior Edition, klpac

  • KCTTDI Essay / Karangan Writing Competition

Join an essay/karangan competition and get your child to submit a piece in either English or Bahasa. 13 to 15 year olds will be writing about holidays, 16 to 17 year olds about friendships, while the 18 year olds will be asked to share their thoughts on the nurturing of leaders. Your child can choose to submit essays online, or physically join other writers to pen down their thoughts on the event day itself.

3. Keris: Power and Identity, Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM)

IAMM will be showcasing a very special exhibit in collaboration with Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor, featuring the keris collection of IAMM, as well as that of HRH Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the Sultan of Selangor. Look out for an exciting line up of of educational programmes in the form of talks, demonstrations and workshops over the exhibit period!

  • Wood Carving Workshop

Join Mohd Zarir bin Abdullah, a professional sculptor with over 23 years of experience from Besut, Terengganu, as he holds a special wood carving workshop this month. Learn about wood carving in the Malay community, identify chisels used in carving and dive right in to the carving process or silatan process in this two day workshop. All tools and materials will be provided.
