It’s not often that we can do something we love yet be able to contribute to a good cause. The Batik Boutique allows us to shop (frankly who doesn’t enjoy some retail therapy, right?) and help the underprivileged and single mothers community in our own backyard.
Simply purchase any of their products and the sale of each piece will go back to the people who made them – urban poor and single mothers. Another 20% of their overall profits will then be donated to charities in Malaysia such as Klinik Kecheerian and Cempaka Education Center.
The Batik Boutique began their journey back in 2010 when founder and expatriate, Texan Amy Blair, crossed paths with a local single mom who struggled to support her family financially. The encounter left a lasting impression on Amy and the two experimented on producing batik products from materials they have sourced from local markets. Now, there are over 30 disadvantaged women who are from Klang Valley and Ipoh in the group.
On how much change the cause have brought to these women, Amy said, “It’s heartening to see lives of families improving thanks to The Batik Boutique’s customers who are helping to make a difference.”
