In conjunction with its 25th anniversary, Ronald McDonald House Charities Malaysia (RMHC) recently unveiled its newly-refurbished home after completing renovation in September 2014. Nestled deep within Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, located in Cheras, you would find the cheery brightly painted house, set to put a smile on the faces of those who enter.
One of the projects of RMHC was to provide a home-away-from-home service for paediatric patients with serious illnesses, and their families who travel from afar to seek medical treatments at the hospital. This is currently its first outlet in Malaysia and the program’s aim is to ease the burden of low-income families. The cost of stay per day is RM5.
Basic amenities and rooms in the home help provide a sense of comfort for families. There are 19 bedrooms, each comfortably accommodate three people. Other rooms include a living room, a computer room, a kitchen, a play area and an outdoor park. The upgraded features of the home also ensures a more child-friendly living space with the inclusion of tables and chairs with rounded edges.
Ever wondered where the money in the coin box placed in front of McDonalds’ counters goes to? A large portion of it was used to fund RMHC which received its facelift in order to maintain a comfortable living environment for the children and their families.
