From the newly opened Wetlands Arboretum Centre, to eco-tourism activities at the Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands, adventure and thrill-seeking attractions at the Discovery Park and water-based rides at SplashMania Waterpark, here’s a full guide to exploring these exciting activities – only at Gamuda Cove!
1. Wetlands Arboretum Centre
Newly opened in August 2023, this centre is a fantastic place for families with school-aged children. It features a 90-acre arboretum with research areas, tree preservation zones, urban farming and an educational wetlands exhibition gallery. Wetlands Arboretum is targeted to introduce over 200 species and the preservation of approximately 3,000 trees as part of the Gamuda Green initiative. It’s also an excellent spot to teach kids about biodiversity and can be visited through two adventure tours!
2. Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands (PIDW)
Jungle School Programme 2.0
Curated specially for those aged 4 to 12 years old, the programme allows kids to discover exciting facts about the animals and plants that live within the wetland’s ecosystem. Both tour options in this programme will take you through PIDW, ending at the Wetlands Arboretum Centre.
This option includes a guided experiential safari tour into PIDW with experienced rangers. Hop on board a safari truck, which will take you on a drive through 11 picturesque lakes and bamboo trails. Be sure to look out for the occasional monitor lizard crossing the road, and listen to the rangers point out brightly coloured Kingfishers, long-legged Herons and unique migratory birds. Don’t forget to say hi as well to Baby and Lily, the two resident hippos you will be feeding as part of the tour. (Fun fact: each hippo can eat up to 70kg of food per day!)
Morning Session | 9.00am to 11.30am |
Evening Session | 2.30pm to 5.00pm |
Pro tip #1: The best slots to view the hippos are in the morning, so opt for the morning session if you’re planning a visit.
This option includes a leisurely tour across the lake in an open boat. Visitors may spot interesting wildlife along the lake bank.
At the end of both tours, visitors will be taken to the Wetlands Arboretum Centre. Here, kids will explore exciting activities like urban farming, where they’ll get to plant their own trees and vegetables.
They can also participate in fun workshops, which include grabbing leaf samples from shrubs to glue into scrapbooks, or being given a ‘water scientist’ lesson. Young environmentalists will also get the chance to head to the Arboretum Gallery, where they can obtain valuable information and insights into the wetlands ecosystem, while checking out the interactive features inside.
Finally, don’t forget to check out the lovely handicraft-making by Orang Asli associates, and pick up a souvenir or two from them.
Here are some other activities you and your kids can enjoy at PIDW!
