My Story: What This New Mum Wants for Christmas

YP_Christmas

As they say, give a mum a nice dress and the baby will vomit on it. Give a mum a nice book and she may finally finish reading it when baby graduates college.

My baby turns five months this Christmas and all I really want for Christmas is to sleep-in until 10am and lounge around all day. But let’s face it, that won’t be happening anytime soon, so here’s my wish list this Christmas:

1. Khind Anshin Double Boiler

YP_Khind

Apparently this is the kitchen helper to have when your baby starts weaning. My favorite feature of this double boiler is that it comes with these tiny ceramic pots so you can whip up a variety of greens and fruits for your baby in these individual pots at any one time. As your baby progresses to eating rice or noodles, you can prepare the broth for lunch while cooking porridge for dinner all at the same time.

2. Ziploc Bags

It may sound boring and cheap, but these bags are perfect for vomit-filled bibs, onesies, milk bottles, hankies and anything clean or soiled.

 3. Play Mat
Floor time is important for a baby’s motor development. Having a mat will give my baby more room to roll around and eventually crawl in.

4. Bobbi Brown Corrector & Concealer

I’ve never gone through these little things so fast. The recipe for looking fresh every morning is one layer for the late night feeding and a little extra because baby woke up in vomit at 2am.

5. Comfy Flats
Try juggling the diaper bag, a screaming baby and setting up your stroller in a pair of heels. It just doesn’t work. Now, try doing that with a pair of comfortable flats. I’d imagine half the battle is won.

 6. The Perfect Diaper Bag

YP_DiaperBag

The perfect diaper bag would have all the right compartments – one for mummy’s phone, sunnies and money, and another for baby’s many things. The bag that has thought it through is the Ju-Ju-Be Bag. It’s lined with antimicrobial material to inhibit and reduce the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew. It’s also Teflon coated so you can say bye-bye to those vomit stains. It even has a mummy compartment where you can stash your phone, keys and even a special cloth to wipe off fingerprints on your sunnies. I’d like the Better Be Ju-Ju-Be and the Be Prepared Ju-Ju-Be, please!

 7. Philips AVENT Steamer and Blender

YP_Avent

The key to being a happy mum is efficiency. One less step means a few more minutes of rest. As I start planning for my baby’s stages of weaning, I suspect I’ll enjoy its compact design (think travel-friendly). The two in one feature means that I have less parts to wash. Steam and turn over to blend. Presto!

8. Wooden Rocking Horse

YP_RockingHorse

Simply because it’s a beautiful decoration piece for the nursery.  And, I’m sure my baby would enjoy rocking on it, too!

9. A Spa Day
Although it’s been several months after delivery, my body still feels battered. A day of massage, facial and just general pampering would, I believe, breathe new life into me.

10. Family Photography Session
We’re putting up the Christmas tree for the first time as a family. I would love to have a photographer capture all the favourite Christmas moments – the first time we light up the tree, baby’s first present and most importantly, baby’s first reindeer outfit!

Yin Peng is struggling to accept that she can’t be it all – be a super mum, super wife and super woman. She tries to take things a day at a time and does so in a pair of comfy flats.
