In December, French cities and towns sparkle with fun and festivity as the Le Marchè de Noël (Christmas bazaar) becomes the place where one can find fabulous French handicraft and delicious traditional food. The good news is that you don’t have to travel all the way to France to experience it – there’s a similar event in KL.
A group of French expatriate mums living in Malaysia is behind the charitable Christmas event that started in KL in 2010. Through Le Marchè de Noël, they aim to raise funds for needy Malaysian children and their families while creating a homelike, Christmas experience for the French expatriate community living in Malaysia.
Since last year, Le Marchè de Noël has been supporting Make A Wish Malaysia which grants the wishes of children with life threatening conditions, and the A-Heart-for-Heart programme which supports corrective surgeries for underprivileged children with critical congenital defects.
“We also chose Christmas as it is a season for giving and a happy time for children. On a personal basis, we wanted to contribute to Malaysia which has warmly hosted us for so many years. As mothers and women, we wanted to dedicate the event to sick and needy Malaysian children and their families” says Flavie Causse.
In 2013, Le Marchè de Noël raised a whopping RM107,000 for two programs supporting critically ill children. This year, they are hoping to reach their target of raising RM130,000.
A total of 55 vendors will be taking part in this year’s festivities, offering everything from special hand-sewn fashion for children and ladies, home decor, home linen, handcrafted jewelry, health and beauty products, unique and original Malaysian art, and much more. “We try to offer a special French shopping experience from handcrafted products to novelty items that are not available through the usual retail outlets,” explains Flavie.
There will be two Le Marchè de Noël events: a Christmas Bazaar and an exclusive French-themed Christmas party for invited guests only.
