Dengue has been a major public health concern in Malaysia. In the first quarter of 2015 alone, more than 32,000 cases were reported and 101 deaths, marking a 37% increase in number of cases and more than double the fatality rate in the same period in 2014.
With an increasing need to protect Malaysians against dengue, New Wave Communications has developed Kil-Dengue, a mobile app that’s designed to repel dengue transmitting mosquitoes. The app, which took three years to develop, works by emitting frequency or sound waves. Through testings by the Institute for Medical Research Malaysia, the app is said to be effective in repelling more than 75% of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
Kil-Dengue is available on the App Store ($2.99) and Google Play Store (RM10).
