As any parent of more than a child can tell you, two kids are much more work than one. How do you balance their needs and yours equally? At Bloom & Grow’s 10th anniversary catalogue launch, we had a quick chat with former Akademi Fantasia contestant and radio announcer, Nana Mahazan, to get an idea what life’s like with two kids.
Hi Nana! How old are your kids?
Althea is four and Aaqib is 10 months old.
Can you describe your perfect day with the kids?
When they are sleeping and not jumping around [laughs]. I like playing with the kids and taking them out. We just got back from the Gold Coast and it was a lot of fun travelling together.
What are your secrets for getting fit after pregnancy?
Don’t have a maid because then you have to do everything by yourself – taking care of the kids, cleaning up the house, doing the laundry, and running up and down the stairs. I don’t have the time to go to the gym because I spend most of my time at home with the kids.
I quit my job after having my first child and now I work part-time. Whenever I have to attend events, my mother will help me out.
Breastfeeding helps [in getting fit after pregnancy] too.
How do you balance family time and work?
My family is my priority. If I have an event to attend or a job to do and my mother can’t take care of the kids, then I won’t accept the job. To me, the kids come first so it’s not hard for me to choose between work and family.
What do you love most about motherhood?
Feeling loved everyday and being looked up to is the best feeling ever.
How do you manage to have time for yourself while looking after two kids?
I don’t have time for myself. Sometimes my husband reminds me to go out with my girl friends. I will go out but after a while, I want to go home because I’m so attached to my kids. I think it’s my fault in a way. Mothers should get some ‘me’ time but to me, I’d rather spend it with the kids.
