Come 27 December 2014, two star-studded squads of ex-professional footballers and celebrities will compete in an electrifying football match to raise awareness about child nutrition in Malaysia. The “I Eat, I Am” initiative is organised by BumiBola Sports, in partnership with One Goal Malaysia. Familiar names such as Adam Carruthers, Joe Flizzow, Stanley Bernard, Asmawi Bakiri, Abbas Saad, George Boateng, Dez Corkhill and Mark O’Dea will grace Stadium Merdeka with their presence and football skills.
“It’s a noble cause and I’m here to raise awareness,” said Joe Flizzow at the event’s press conference.
Proceeds from ticket sales will be given out to programs that are inline with this cause, such as the Liga Bolasepak and Nutritious Cooking Classes in Mukim Tulid, Sabah, and the Children’s Live Right Club.
While Malaysia is certified to be the nation with the highest obesity rate, we’ve also got a serious case of children that are undernourished, particularly among the poor – the National Health and Morbidity Survey 2011 recorded 17% of children under the age of 5 were stunted and 10% of children between the ages of 10 and 17 are malnourished. One Goal Malaysia is set to raise awareness on this cause to as many people as possible with support from the Ministry of Health.
