This September 3, H&M is debuting 16 new denim styles at all stores worldwide.
The denim styles are part of the clothing company’s latest efforts towards promoting sustainable fashion. The environmentally conscious brand began collecting unwanted clothes in 2013 in their H&M Garment collecting initiative, which are now being used to make the new denim pieces. Currently H&M is using up to 20% recycled cotton in the new denim styles.
There are three styles of jeans for women, skinny to distressed ‘girlfriend’ jeans with a denim jacket, a flared dungarees and a denim jumpsuit. For men, there is a zip-up denim jacket paired with two distressed slim leg styled jeans, and a pair of joggers in coated denim.
For kids, a zip-up hoodie with adorable animal ears paired with stretch jeans sequined at the knee, and a street style hooded shirt paired with distressed jeans.
“Creating a closed loop for textiles,” says Karl-Johan Persson, CEO of H&M, “in which unwanted clothes can be recycled into new ones, will not only minimize textile waste, but also significantly reduce the need for virgin resources as well as other impacts fashion has on our planet.”
