The Cooler Lumpur Festival is back, with the theme Notes from the Future! From 17-20 August, Publika Shopping Gallery will be welcoming speakers from the US, UK, Germany, and Japan on panel discussions and workshops. There will also be film screenings, an art exhibition, and more. The festival caters to audiences of all ages from all walks of life, including the little ones! Join in on Cooler Lumpur Junior for a special weekend curated by the Makchic team.
Cooler Lumpur Junior Highlight #1: The Whitman Tellers
Jen and Nat Whitman, international educators will be flying down from Bangkok for their signature interactive storytelling sessions! For parents who would like to learn the art of storytelling themselves to play at home, the Whitmans will also be conducting a workshop.
Here are their sessions at the festival:
A World of Stories! – Sing along to lively songs and folktales from around the globe!

Once Upon a Family: Storytelling at Home
Bring the whole family for an hour of playing with stories together. We will learn a story or two and try out storytelling games that you can play at home. This is an active session – be prepared to play with stories together! This workshop is designed for parents with primary school-aged children.
When: Saturday 19 August 2017, 3 PM – 4 PM

Cooler Lumpur Junior Highlight #2:Â Google Expeditions
Haven’t been on a holiday in a while? No sweat! Take your kids to Publika to experience a virtual reality field trip to, well, virtually anywhere! The expeditions will be guided in a 15-20 minute session.

Do you see a budding artist in your little one? Then come for a workshop conducted by Jian, better known as the artist behind Miao & WafuPafu.

Cooler Lumpur Junior Highlight #4:Â ‘Tak Nak Straw’
Straws suck! As a single-use disposable item used on average for just 20 minutes, plastic straws are not recycled. They languish for hundreds of years in landfills or wreak havoc in rivers and oceans, polluting our water tables, food chains and our bodies.
Not cool, especially when plastic straws are not necessary! If you must suck, DIY or BYO earth-friendly alternatives such as stainless steel, bamboo, papaya stem or waxed paper straws are great alternatives. Join the ‘Tak Nak Straw’ workshop to learn about the journey of a plastic straw, make your own waxed paper straws, and watch how to make papaya stem ones!
Workshops suitable for people 7 years old and above. All materials are provided. Scissors and hot wax involved.
