A child’s growth rate is the most rapid during the first 12 months than any other period of time — which explains why babies grow astonishingly fast. Chances are, they would have outgrown their clothes by the second wear.
When your baby clothes pile gets too overwhelming, it’s time to consider which are the ones worth saving, and what should be sold or be given the boot. So here’s how to cut through the clutter and make more space in your child’s wardrobe.
Upcycling
Can’t bear to part with those precious first memories? Try re-purposing outgrown baby clothes into keepsakes or even an accessory! You’ll be surprised how easy it is to make your own bibs, tiny hats or even a memory quilt.
Keep them as hand me downs
Parents who have plans on keeping the baby clothes for a (future) younger sibling can do so by either storing these hand-me-downs in organisation containers or simply categorise them into age groups with these super cute animal hanger labels.
Sell, give away or swap
Babies only need their clothes for a limited space of time, so why spend a fortune? Sell, give or swap with other thrifty moms — but make sure they’re in mint condition. Stained, torn or faded ones are huge no-nos. If you’re social media-savvy, join these groups on Facebook: Moms n kids, playmates & shopmates, KL Mom’s Club, Preloved Baby Goods, and KL Moms Swap and Shop. Who knows? Maybe you could stumble upon some interesting finds too.
Donate them for a good cause
With Parents Without Partners (PwP), you can donate old baby clothes at their Jumble Station where profits from the sale go towards helping single-parent families. PwP runs the community outreach initiative that helps turn unwanted items from the public into cash, in hopes of improving the well-being of impoverished single mothers, fathers and legal guardians.
