You know Christmas is just around the corner when malls around the Klang Valley put up their decorations and everything seems brighter, more cheerful, magical and happier. This year is no different.

We’ve put together a list of malls that aren’t just offering a shopping experience but also a magical Christmas one. From Santa appearances and cookie-icing workshops to giant Christmas trees and shiny baubles, quick trips to the malls will surely get you get in the mood for the festive season. Here are 12 that are worth taking your family to:

IPC Shopping Centre

Ikano

To bring in the Christmas mood, IPC Shopping Centre is adorned with a forest-themed décor. Follow Tomte (a mythological creature from Scandinavian folklore) on a journey through the forest, where he meets magical creatures along the way. This Swede Christmas is made even more cheerful with fun activities for the whole family.

Step into “Christmas Valleys” at Paradigm Mall in Petaling Jaya where shoppers are greeted with a large castle on the mall’s concourse level. Watch out for the clans – Wallys, Claberons and Tohrens – who are tasked to help Santa and prepare shoppers for Christmas. Not to be missed!

The Curve‘s “A Christmas Encounter” theme sees its Centre Court transformed into a country-like atmosphere where a log cabin furnished with wreaths, a fire pit and surrounded by Christmas trees. Come watch gnomes dancing at the Christmas cabin while jingle bells and sweet caroling fill the air.

Furry friends take centre stage at 1 Utama Shopping Centre with its concourse area having been turned into a winter wonderland for a theme of “A Rustic Woodland Christmas – Love & Joy”. The decor is complemented by cute animal cutouts, whimsical Christmas trees and and tree trunks that make perfect places to snap pictures with your family.

Activity highlights: Kids Performance by Aurora Performing Arts Centre, The Little Dancers, BROS Bottle Painting, Gingerbread Man Making, St. Ignatius Church Choir, and more.

Pavilion Shopping Mall

Pavilion KL has definitely outdone themselves with the Christmas decorations this year: Presenting the Pavilion KL Christmas Magnificence! Not only are you greeted at the mall entrance with magnificent lights and massive, red Christmas trees, every day at 8pm up until the 4th of January, there will be a musical synchronised light show with classic Christmas jingles for everyone to enjoy.

Activity highlights: In conjunction with Pavilion KL Christmas Magnificence, alongside the only synchronised light showcase in town, there are scheduled meet and greet sessions with Santa, carolling and various other activities for families to take part in up until the 4th of January.

KLCC Shopping Centre

As per usual, KLCC has one of the tallest Christmas trees on display in KL. Not only are their decorations breathtaking, but they always have different activities that cater for families, visitors and guests annually. If you’re looking for a mall that would not just make a great backdrop for your holiday card but one filled with things to do for the entire family, KLCC would be the place to visit during this festive season.

Activity highlights: Their activities include Santa workshops, carolling, Santa meet and greet, and a variety of games for the public to partake in and win attractive prizes throughout the festive month.

Avenue K Shopping Mall

As fuchsia is the official colour of Avenue K, you and the family can expect a pink Christmas this year. From fuchsia Christmas trees to white reindeers hanging from the ceilings, Avenue K has a pinkture perfect display for the little ones. Boys may hate it but we’re certain that the majority of the girls will love it. They also have Christmas song and dance performances every weekend at 4pm.

Activity highlights: Christmas Ikiosk interactive games are held in the Ground Floor for everyone to participate and win amazing prizes.

Walk into the enchanted land spanning the Ground Floor of Mid Valley Megamall where the “Fairy Tails” are busy gathering up festive activities in preparation for Santa’s arrival. Enjoy the mystical atmosphere with giant mushrooms, brightly coloured flowers surrounded by large Christmas trees decked in sparkles.

Activity highlights: Activities include an Arts & Crafts workshop for parents and children to take part in – from wreath making, mask making and much more on a daily basis.

Bangsar Shopping Centre

Bangsar Shopping Centre went all out on their Christmas decorations as always; giant candy cane sticks, fairy lights draped from the ceiling to the floor, life-size gingerbread houses – it’s almost like walking into a scene for Hansel & Gretel but you probably can’t eat everything you see. Kids will also be able to meet Santa but if they’re too shy, they can head over to Santa’s Special Nook and write him a letter.

Bangsar Village

If you’ve always wanted to experience a white Christmas but don’t have the funds to travel, Bangsar Village is the next best thing. Their trees are decorated beautifully with fake snow and everything is color coordinated which enhances the experience. Join in on their activities like decorating your own gingerbread house or donate to their Christmas community chest.

Sunway Pyramid chose a circus theme for this holiday season. Be enchanted by their polar bear statues, tall and beautiful christmas trees and light display which will blind you if you stare long enough, and their preview of LumiAir – a circus extraordinaire.

Activity Highlights: Roving carolers, meet Santa, spend time with Leo and Leona (Sunway Pyramid’s mascots), a preview of Lumi Air.

Publika

Publika lives up to it’s association with arts with six differentially interpreted christmas trees as part of their Christmas installation. Each tree represents something beautiful; one in particular caught Makchic’s eye, David Wong’s “Toys, Once Again”, a tall tree decorated from tip to bottom in toys – toys that kids can play with.
