Stride into the month of September with these fun-filled family activities around the Klang Valley.

1. Humans of KL ‘New Beginnings’ Photostory Exhibition

Catch a glimpse into the personal lives of people living in Kuala Lumpur through the Humans of KL Photostory Exhibition. Mushamir Mustafa, a freelance photographer and photojournalist started Humans of Kuala Lumpur following the successful trend of Humans of New York initiated by Brandon Stanton. The exhibition will display never before exhibited 35 photo stories, showcasing the unique and diverse lives of Malaysians.

There are Meet & Greet sessions every weekend featuring people behind HOKL’s stories. Learn how to interview, write stories and capture portrait photography with workshops on photography and the art of storytelling held every weekend. There will also be art performances and handicraft booths during the event.

2. Hari Malaysia & Publika Art Show

In conjunction with National Day, Publika collaborates with Arkib Negara Malaysia for the Hari Malaysia & Publika Art Show 2019. The highlight of the exhibition will be the 1951 Nash Rambler – the car used by Tunku Abdul Rahman to declare the independence of Federation of Tanah Melayu on 31 August 1957.

There will also be exhibitions on ‘The People of Malaysia’, showcasing citizens and non-citizens who contributed towards nation-building. Local talents in fine arts, graffiti and fashion will also showcase their work. There will also be a Malaysian tattoo expo held during the art show.

3. New Moon Nature Walk

Taman Tugu & Children of Soil brings to you the New Moon Nature Walk. Your guide, Khim Joe, will take you into the trails of Taman Tugu where you’ll identify some of the oldest trees and explore ways to connect to ‘tree beings’. The session ends with a sharing moment between participants, where you will be gifted a ‘channeled message from the Earth’, starting the ‘new moon cycle with a better sense of clarity’. 4. Alasdair Malloy’s Symphonic Safari

As a percussionist, presenter, glass harmonica player, programme deviser, arranger and more, Alasdair Malloy will join forces with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra to present Symphonic Safari. Come dressed up as your favourite animal, or bring along a soft toy to join in the fun. Expect to meet creatures like buzzing bees, enormous elephants and waltzing cats in this mesmerizing safari adventure. Purchase your tickets here.

5. Swiss Dream Circus

Swiss Dream Circus returns for the fifth year with an all-new cast and show. Prepare to be captivated by the magical sights and sounds of the Big Top. There are aerial acrobatics, jump rope, Wheel of death, jugglers, swinging trapeze, contortionists and so much more! 6. 2 in 1 Farm Experience

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city by going on an educational half-day tour at two farms. Experience being a farmer at the Sweet Potato Farm, where you will learn how sweet potatoes are planted. Prepare to get down and dirty by cleaning grass and digging for your own sweet potatoes to bring home.

Next, head on to Ostrich Wonderland where you will learn about Ostrich egg hatching as well as visit the huge variety of farm animals. Each ticket purchased includes entrance to two farms (Ostrich Wonderland and Sweet Potato Farm), 1kg of free sweet potatoes, and 1 free pony ride with every child ticket. Book your slots here.

7. Ice Age with the Nutty Scientists

Learn about the properties of CO2 and dry ice in this chilly workshop by Nutty Scientists Malaysia. Suitable for children ages 4-8 years, experience the sublimation process and learn about pressure, density, and more! The fee entitles you to a 15% discount off playground entry after the class. 8. Wau Bulan Making with the Weekend Workshop

The Wau is Malaysia’s very own version of a kite, traditionally flown by men in the East Coast of Malaysia. In this workshop, learn the traditional art of Wau wrapping and decorating it after. 9. YMCAKL SuperfunKids: Sunday Arts + Crafts

YMCA KL SuperfunKids holds fortnightly community programmes for young families which are specifically targeted for children aged 4 to 12 years. It is also a safe space for children to meet friends of their age and participate in experiences out of their classrooms. Basic utensils and devices will be provided for each craft project; however, you may bring your own supplies if you wish.

10. DIY a Tic Tac Toe Game Board Craft Workshop

A workshop with a twist, this Tic Tac Toe Game Board Craft Workshop is done alongside the storytelling of “Pig the Winner” by the best-selling book and award-winning author – Aaron Blabey. 11. 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens

Based on the best-selling book by Sean Covey, ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens’, this workshop helps teenagers to apply leadership principles to the tough choices they face in current times. The course format is designed to build teenagers’ self-confidence and interpersonal skills, improve student’s emotional well being and boost achievement.  The course is suitable for ages 13 to 18 and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

12. Journey of Lanterns

Sunway Putra Mall is hosting a lantern parade in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival. There will also be a lighted dragon dance troupe, lion dance, and fairies! To join, register here. The first 500 registered participants will receive free lanterns and mooncakes.

13. Sea-mphony at Aquaria KLCC

14. Drama Workshop For Kids: Expressing Yourself

Anrie Too, an actor, singer, emcee-host, model and speech and drama educator returns with a Drama Workshop For Kids. Children will learn to express themselves with a range of skills through ‘Movement & Focus’ as well as ‘Imagination with Storytelling’. Ticketholders are entitled to complimentary book vouchers worth RM15. This workshop is suitable for children from the ages of 4-12 years, who are keen to explore their hidden talents. 15. Tour de Force by Ballet Manila

This September, Ballet Manila makes its maiden tour to Malaysia. Witness the first-ever debut show with a cast of 20 company dancers, presenting a variety of pieces from classical to contemporary ballet. Renowned prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde leads the troupe for this performance. For ticket bookings, head on here.

16. Relaxing Paint Mornings with Charlotte Sullivan

17. Legendary Princesses of Malaysia at Oasis Damansara

Children are familiar with Disney’s Princesses, but do they know that Malaysia has its very own legendary princesses with inspiring stories to boot? 5 of the 10 Legendary Princesses of Malaysia will be brought to life in this storytelling session by The Story Book. Listen to the mythical and real historical stories of Princess Gunung Ledang, Princess Hang Li Po, Princess Bidasari, Princess Ulek Mayang, and Princess Saadong. These stories are based on the Legendary Princesses of Malaysia written by Raman Krishnan of Silverfish Books and illustrated by Emila Yusof. Book yourselves a slot here.
