We become mothers- and the health of our skin, hair and nails (along with a whole load of other things) often take the back seat. But here’s a gentle reminder, mamas: don’t forget to spend some time on yourself, even with a baby or toddler in tow! Here are some fuss-free ways to achieve healthier skin, hair and nails, and get that glow of yours back:
1. Back to basics
More isn’t always better! Consistency is key- a basic 3-step skincare system that you can commit to will work much better than an inconsistent 10-step routine. Make sure that your daily products include a broad spectrum sunscreen too. “But I’m always at home!”, you protest. Remember though, that you’ll still need sunblock even whilst staying indoors, as those harmful UV rays can unfortunately penetrate through windows and glass.
2. Sleep on silk
Get your well-deserved night’s rest with a comfortable silk pillowcase. This luxurious material reduces friction from tossing and turning during sleep, benefiting both your skin and hair. And stop going to bed straight after your shower too. Wet hair is fragile hair – which is prone to breaking, especially if you’re sleeping on a cotton pillowcase that easily absorbs moisture.
3. Building from the inside out
You are what you eat. And guess what? There’s also a scientifically-backed supplement you can ingest to help your skin, hair and nails bounce back from internal and external aggressors. Nature’s Way great-tasting, berry flavoured Beauty Collagen Gummies can fit seamlessly into your life, helping to nourish you from the inside out. Definitely a smart way for mamas to achieve supple skin, lustrous hair and strong nails!
4. Nail it (the right way)
We love our pampering sessions and our trips to the nail spa- but do ask your manicurist to go easy on the cuticle-cutting procedure. Or better still, skip it completely. Cutting your cuticles can lead to a variety of nail and skin infections. Opt instead to apply a coat of cuticle oil for strong and shiny nails (and remember to give those nails of yours a breather every once and a while – especially if you’re a gel mani addict!).
Always bear in mind that there are no instant fixes when it comes to health and wellbeing. Remember to stay consistent with healthy practices, and make sure to treat yourselves right, #makchicmumsquad!
