Pregnancy Calendar: Week 32

By now, your baby weighs 3 3/4 pounds (about the size of a large sengkuang) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus.

You’re gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, your baby gains a third to half of its birth weight during the next 7 weeks as it fattens up for survival outside the womb. Your baby now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Your baby’s skin is becoming soft and smooth as it plumps up in preparation for birth.

In these past few weeks, it’s also all about practice, practice, practice as your baby hones the skills it’ll need to thrive outside the womb. Your baby one has been able to suck her thumb for a while now. Also, as more and more fat accumulates under your baby’s skin, she’s becoming less transparent and more opaque.

To-Do List

[to-do-list]

  • Contact a cord blood bank, if you’re planning to use it.
  • Massage the perineum – the area between your anus and vulva – three to four times a week. It may help reduce your risk of tearing during birth.
  • Call your health insurance company and find out how to make sure baby’s covered.

[fun-tip]

One way to save money on a full-size stroller is by getting a travel system: a car seat and stroller sold together. The car seat snaps onto the stroller initially. When your child is big enough, you can switch to using the stroller by itself.
