Congratulations! You’ve reached the halfway mark in your pregnancy. Your mini-gymnast weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now and measures about 10 inches from head to heel — about a size of a banana.
Now’s your chance to take a peek at your baby’s gender! Your second trimester ultrasound will give your doctor a chance to see how things are going in there. If you’re having a girl, her uterus is now fully formed and her ovaries are home to seven million primitive eggs. If you’re having a boy, his testicles have begun descending from the abdomen to the scrotum.
Your baby is producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion, which will accumulate in his bowels, and you’ll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).
Common Symptoms
- Heartburn or indigestion
- Increased vaginal discharge
- Occasional headaches
- Occasional faintness or dizziness
- Leg cramps
- Mild swelling of ankles and feet
- Protruding navel
To-Do List
- Take frequent breaks for fresh air.
- Switch into slippers to if your swollen ankles and feet are causing discomfort.
- To sleep more soundly, roll to your left side. It’s a more comfortable position for your belly, and side sleeping improves blood flow to your baby.
Makchic Fun Tip!
Be colorful. Don’t limit yourself to black and neutral tones — color is an essential part of the modern maternity closet. You’ll feel happier when you’re wearing clothes that aren’t drab.
