Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a tomato.

Your baby’s sensory capabilities are now developed and have designated specialised areas within the brain for smell, taste, hearing, vision and touch. Another important development this week is your baby’s hearing, so read aloud, talk to your baby or sing if the mood strikes you. Your baby’s arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of its body now.

A waxy protective coating called vernix caseosa coats your baby so she doesn’t get chapped or scratched by her own finger and toe nails. Fine hairs are growing underneath this greasy substance.

Common Symptoms

  • Hearty appetite
  • Constipation
  • Occasional faintness or dizziness
  • Possible nasal congestion
  • Lower abdominal achiness
  • Backaches
  • Stretch marks

To-Do List

  • Bond with your bump by singing or talking to your baby. You may feel self-conscious at first but you’ll soon get used to it.
  • Attend antenatal classes with you partner so he knows what to expect during labour and birth.

Makchic Fun Tip!

Get a prenatal massage with only Bukit Lanjan forest as your backdrop, even though Nada Lama Jamu Spa & Bar is only 10 minutes from The Curve. If you’re seeking a nearby staycation, their Penchala Terrace makes a cosy boutique retreat.
