Activities to Look Out for in August and September 2017

Dinosaurs, Science and Art activities – just three of the many fun things happening this August and September! Take your pick:

Dinasour alive in KL

Dinosaurs Alive

The dinosaurs of the Jurassic Age will be in Kuala Lumpur for six months, letting out a roar or two at the Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTic) on Jalan Ampang. Bring along your little dino-tinywrecks and paleontologists to visit Dinosaurs Alive! They’ll get to trek through a journey spanning 165 million years and get up close and personal with 40 life-size animatronic dinosaurs. The dinosaurs come alive as early as 10 am. Tickets are available online and on-site at the box office.

Date: Tuesday, 1 August onwards.

Time: 10am-10pm daily

Petrosains- The Discovery Centre Workshops

Petrosains- The Discovery Centre runs a series of workshops throughout the year, an experience of fun and discovery for families who want to get their science on. For the months of August and September, Petrosains explores the Science of Superheroes and invites everyone to Let’s Heat Things Up in September. Purchase tickets online at their website (details below). A family ticket (one adult and three children) is priced at RM146.

Date: ‘Science of Superheroes’: Saturday 26 August and Sunday 27 August; ‘Let’s Heat Things Up in September’: Saturday 30 September.

Kecil Hall, MBO Cinemas – Starling Mall

The Kecil theatre hall at MBO Cinemas, Starling Mall welcomes kids of all ages and parents of all stages (from sleep-deprived to avid movie lovers) for popcorn filled movie experiences, with no shushes and welcome fusses. There are three different types of seats: reclining sofa seats, regular cinema seats and also for the little ones, little beanbag seats. The theatre hall also has a little play area for kids who need to have a little stretch or tussle mid-movie, or even a full-on play session. Spider-Man: Homecoming is playing at the moment but the makchic team is looking forward to Cars 3 in August! Come on over and catch a movie (or a wink or two) and let your little ones indulge and play at the same time.

Atria’s Junior Got Talent

Join in the fun and let your talented little ones shine at Atria’s Junior Got Talent in August. Auditions will be held on August 6 while the final will be on August 30 at the Centre Court, Ground Floor. This talent showcase is open to participants aged 12 and below, and limited to 150 participants.

Date: Sunday 6 August (auditions) and Wednesday 30 August (final).

Time: Auditions: From 10.30am; Final: From 3pm.

Atria’s Junior Badminton Tournament

Mark your calendar and get those badminton racquets ready, Lee Chong Wei wannabes! The Atria Junior Badminton Tournament will be held over the long Merdeka weekend.

Code juniors – Summer Coding Camp: Application Making and Scratch Programming

Calling all aspiring coders! The Summer Coding Camp: Application Making and Scratch Programming will be held this coming month at the Pusat Kreatif Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. Junior coders are to bring their laptop/Macbook as well as Android phones for app testing. Fees are RM495, including breakfast and snacks. Get ready to cover the following: the fundamentals of coding, MIT Visual Programming Language SCRATCH, and learn to create video games and Android apps.

Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS), Ipoh

The Movie Animation Park Studios Perak opened its doors recently in June this year. Spend a day or two at Asia’s first animation theme park! The park has six themed zones and over 40 attractions such as Animation Square (Boboiboy Hero Academy), Blast Off Zone (The Smurfs Partyland), Dream Zone (The Croods Crazy Chase) and the Lakeside Zone (Space Explorers).

Ilham Gallery – Ilham Kids! Art Discovery Tours

Ilham Gallery brings art to your kids in the form of their Art Discovery Tours which focus on cultivating art appreciation and creativity in small children. The tours, which are for children in the following age groups: 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12, are designed to give children the opportunity to engage with art, interpret ideas and create their own art pieces. Make sure to book a place as they fill up pretty quickly.

Ilham Gallery – Ilham Kids! Children’s Picture Book Reading Session

Indulge your little ones in the world of literacy and art with the Ilham Kids – Children’s Picture Book Reading Sessions held in collaboration with Books Kinokuniya Kuala Lumpur. There are two sessions in August and September for children aged between 5 – 9 years old.

You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown (DPAC – Damansara Performance Arts Centre)

For theatre lovers, DPAC brings you two productions lined up for the months of August and September.

The first is ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves’, brought to you by Dance Space, with one of the world’s most beloved fairytales. Tickets are priced at RM48, RM58 and RM68. Children below 3 enter free.

Date: 16 and 17 September

There’s also ‘Broadway Musical – You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown‘, by Sifu Productions.
